The Mowgli’s - I’ve Been Around

Oh hey there summer, didn’t know you’d poured yourself into an album. Joking aside, The Mowgli’s debut album Sound The Drum is full to the brim with the kind of music that you put on full volume and leap around the room waving manically and feeling pretty good about life. It was actually incredibly hard to choose just one track from this incredible debut, with tracks like San Francisco and Hi Hey There Hello being just as fantastic…. Come on, surely you can tell how much you need to go get this album purely from the sheer volume of positive adjectives used in this paragraph?

In relation to the actual sound of I’ve Been Around, it is an uplifting mix of indie folk, rock, pop that blends together to create a new element called ‘awesome’. I personally found this new element manifesting itself within me through the medium of movement, and I found myself dancing like a hillbilly throwing my legs out in every direction, whooping, and generally not being in control of my limbs.

The album is currently on The Mowgli’s Bandcamp. For those who like a bargain there is no minimum donation, or for those like me who would feel too bad - you can ‘buy’ the album for whatever price your conscience will allow:

Deadly Time Vortex Appears over Antartica

Robotic devices ordered by US military delivered to South Pole! Weather balloon returns dates decades old! Cthulhu wakes up in the middle of the night to take a piss!

Artificial structure found under two miles of ice

During April 2001 one of the world’s great secrets was revealed: an ancient structure or apparatus that lay encased miles under the hard Antarctic ice was detected by a roving spy satellite. The US military immediately moved to quash the reports and the mainstream news media dutifully complied.

Earlier this week, my friend (CalArts alum) Monica Yi and her apartment mates Darrelle Vary and Robin Newman lost their Brooklyn apartment to an electrical fire. Thankfully they are all alive, but one of them is in critical condition at Bellevue after a five story fall. They lost everything including their two dogs. Any help, resources, or donations for food / CLOTHING (men’s and women’s - they are both small so any size is ok) / pet supplies / medical bills would be much appreciated. Money donations can be made through this Fundly link (by clicking the photo). If you are not able to donate, please help spread the word! Thanks

Not of this Era

justin bailey alpha

The out-of-nowhere fascination with quantum mechanics and the aimless soul searching have finally amalgamated into one singular idea. I’ve decided to cut the pretend time bullshit and turn this tumblr into a proof of concept blog on my upcoming game: Not of this Era.

Not of this Era is, conceptually, a time travel sandbox that allows users to experiment with cause and effect over a series of different “eras.” Stylistically, aesthetically, and with regards to pacing, it is an homage to Out of this World, Flashback, and the other semi-forgotten adventure classics of the early 90’s.

Our protagonist is Justin Bailey, oddball inventor by trade, and time traveler by accident. When Justin succeeds in completing his time machine, he unwittingly changes early history and returns to a fundamentally altered version of his reality (a la Ray Bradbury’s Sound of Thunder). In order to restore his universe to order (and complete the game), Justin will have to bring about a paradoxical reality. For example, Justin could interfere with his own past, and try to prevent his earlier plans to build a time machine, or he could travel through history and bring about the demise of an ancient ancestor of mankind. Either of these realities would render Justin’s entering a time machine logically impossible and thus return his universe to normal.

The image at the top is a sketch I did of Justin and his time machine. Right now its a copy of the Superbrothers’ pixel characters, but as I get more experience with pixel art, I plan to refine him and give him a style of his own.

This project will be my life for the next year. I’ll start by creating the basic art assets and then build a single test room for playing with the cause and effect time travel mechanics. Once I’ve got a beautifully working test room, I’ll write the story and side quests/plotlines for each era that Justin will visit, and create a Kickstarter project to (hopefully) fund part of the game. Then the real fun begins.

I’ll continue to post new art assets and status updates here. Enjoy!

Multiverse: Cosmologists Find Signs of Alternate Reality Collisions

Getting smacked by an entire universe would definitely leave a mark. Specifically, it would leave a disk-like pattern in our universe’s cosmic microwave background radiation, and this is what a group of cosmologists from University College London have been looking for. Somewhat incredibly, they managed to find some of these bruises. Four of them. And it’s ten times more likely that the four marks are universe collision signatures than that they are anything else that we know of.”
